PTAC Repair, Sales & Installation in NYC
PTAC units are self-contained systems installed through an exterior wall. Depending on the model, one chassis may provide cooling, heating or both for an apartment, hotel room, office or other individual zone.
Repair and replacement depend on more than nominal capacity. Sleeve dimensions, exterior grille, voltage, electrical connection, heating method and drainage must all match the building and the new equipment.
Common PTAC problems
Not cooling
A dirty coil, airflow restriction, refrigeration fault or compressor problem can leave the chassis running without removing enough heat.
Not heating
Gas-heat and heat-pump models use different heating components, controls and safety sequences.
Weak airflow
Filters, blower wheels and coils collect debris inside a compact air path and can sharply reduce output.
Loud operation
Loose panels, fan assemblies, motors and compressor mounts can transmit noise through the wall sleeve.
Water and ice
A blocked drain, poor pitch, weak airflow or refrigeration problem can produce leaks or ice.
Dead controls
Onboard controls, wall thermostats and wiring interfaces can all affect how the unit responds.
What to confirm before PTAC replacement
- Existing sleeve dimensions and condition
- Exterior grille compatibility
- Voltage and electrical connection
- Cooling capacity for the room
- Gas heat, electric heat or PTHP operation
- Condensate drainage and wall condition
- Standardization for multi-unit properties
PTAC questions we hear
Gas or heat-pump PTAC — what's the difference?
Gas-heat and heat-pump models use different heating components, controls and safety sequences, so they are diagnosed and replaced differently. Confirm which heating method the room uses, along with voltage and electrical connection, before choosing a replacement.
Can an existing wall sleeve be reused?
Often it can, if the sleeve dimensions, condition and exterior grille match the new equipment. Sleeve size, wall condition and drainage are checked before replacement, so the new chassis fits and drains properly.
How should a building plan many PTAC replacements?
For multi-unit properties, standardizing on matching equipment simplifies parts, service and future replacements. Start by confirming sleeve sizes, voltage and heating type across the units, then plan the work in stages that suit the building.
